Prof. Andrej Kos is a professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, and the Head of the Laboratory for Telecommunications, where he directs research and development work in the field of modern communication technologies. He also serves as the Chairman of the Innovation Commission at the University of Ljubljana and as a member of the Information and Communication Technologies group of the Rectors’ Conference, participating in the formulation of guidelines and strategic decisions in the ICT field.
In 2020, he received the Golden Plaque of the University of Ljubljana for his scientific, pedagogical, and developmental achievements. His research work covers a wide spectrum of technological areas, including the Internet of Things (IoT), communication protocols, 5G and 6G networks, cybersecurity, blockchain, and data management and analytics. With these technologies, he supports the development of solutions across various vertical sectors, such as smart cities, villages, and communities, energy, Industry 4.0, critical infrastructures, and public safety systems. He focuses on connecting complex technological platforms with the practical challenges faced by users and organizations.
An important part of his work is represented by the ICT Academy (ICTA), which he leads and which, through professional training, enables a two-way transfer of knowledge between the academic environment, the economy, and public institutions. In recent years, he has been focusing more intensively on the deployment of the Internet of Things and blockchain technologies in various environments, particularly from the perspective of their integration, reliability, and practical value in real-world systems.
