Healthcare 5.0 as a Support for the Transformative Transition of Regions

The World Health Organization (WHO) clearly recognizes the key role of digital health in achieving universal health coverage and in efforts towards more efficient, accessible, and successful healthcare services. At the same time, the changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic have revealed significant disparities in the capacities of countries and regions to digitally transform their healthcare systems. The pandemic demonstrated that focusing on digital approaches can inadvertently increase regional health inequalities if known gaps in access, usage, and integration of digital technologies are not considered and appropriately addressed.

The emerging concept of applying Industry 5.0 to the healthcare sector, known as Healthcare 5.0, uses state-of-the-art technologies to revolutionize healthcare services, improve treatment outcomes, and enhance the overall patient experience.

The project focuses on areas where regional and local policies can play a significant role, namely: telehealth, person-centered care, accessibility, digital health literacy, and digital inclusion.

The overall objective of the HUMAN project is to provide more affordable, accessible, equitable, and resilient healthcare services by introducing Healthcare 5.0 solutions, which will result from improved policy instruments across eight European regions.
