The NCUP2 project continues the development of the National Traffic Management Center (Nacionalni center za upravljanje prometa – NCUP), aimed at improving traffic management in Slovenia and providing real-time traffic information. NCUP integrates various data sources regarding national road conditions and traffic flows, enabling their analysis and application in traffic management and the development of advanced mobility services. Among its key building blocks are the National Access Point for traffic data (NAP) portal, the multimodal travel planning application (SiMO), Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS), the National Transport Model (MODEL), the Traffic Geographic Information System (PGIS), and the National Record of Road Closures (NEZ).
At the Multimedia Lab, our work on the project focused primarily on the visual presentation of content and user experience development. We designed and produced seven promotional 2D and 3D animations to present the operations of NCUP and the aforementioned platforms, applications, and mobility projects in Slovenia to the public in an easy-to-understand manner. We developed these animations from the initial concept and scriptwriting to visual design, graphic element production, voice recording, and the animation of narrative avatars.
In addition to video content, we designed promotional posters and developed the comprehensive corporate identity and accompanying materials for the professional conference on traffic management integration within the framework of NCUP. A significant part of our work also involved the development of the SiMO application, where we designed the user interface and user experience, working closely with the development team to implement functionalities. We then tested the application in a real-world environment, contributing to the further improvement of the multimodal travel planning solution through user experience evaluation.
