The VR FE project is an interactive virtual reality presentation of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, primary aimed at high school students deciding on their future studies. Utilizing modern multimedia technologies, the project provides an insight into the research and pedagogical work of the faculty, showcasing the key fields of electrical engineering covered by individual departments. The portal allows visitors to explore the faculty remotely and learn about its laboratories, projects, and study areas through various multimedia contents.

In cooperation with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and its departments, the Multimedia Lab prepared a 360° virtual tour of the faculty alongside presentations of nine research fields: automation, biomedical engineering, power engineering, electronics, information and communication technologies, mechatronics, multimedia, robotics, and technical quality. Using a 360° camera, we captured panoramic scenes and video footage from individual departmental laboratory spaces, demonstrating research and project work in a real-world environment. We also recorded numerous short promotional videos of hands-on projects that present different aspects of electrical engineering in an accessible and engaging way. In addition to the 360° tour, we developed interactive presentations of the study programs, providing an overview of curriculum paths and course contents by individual years and study levels.

The project was created as a response to the conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic when the faculty’s open days could not be held in person. Despite the restrictions, the VR presentation allowed future students to gain insight into the inner workings of the faculty. Today, the portal remains a sustainable communication tool for showcasing electrical engineering and multimedia studies to the wider public.
